MORAVIAN COLLEGE has an immediate opening for a Laboratory Preparation Coordinator to be responsible for assisting in the supervision of the Natural Science Department stockrooms and laboratory areas.

DEPARTMENT: Natural Sciences
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Chairs of the Biology (1/4 time), Chemistry (1/4 time) and Physics (1/4 time) Departments

SUPERVISION EXCERCISED: Undergraduate student work-study assistants

POSITION SUMMARY: The Laboratory Preparation Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the supervision of their stockrooms and laboratory areas for the natural sciences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serves as the chemical health and safety compliance consultant for Collier Hall of Science to insure that the institution meet current and future federal and state regulations on laboratory safety.

2. Responsible for providing laboratory assistance (e.g. materials preparation, laboratory set-up and take-down, animal facility and greenhouse supervision, microbial culture maintenance) in support of the natural science departments.

3. Prepares, orders, stores, inventories, and distributes chemicals and other materials for the natural science departments.

4. Provides for the general care of equipment and sees to its repair when necessary.

5. Supervises undergraduate student work-study assistants as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree in a related scientific field, with knowledge of acceptable laboratory practices and safety. Prior laboratory coordination experience is preferred. Familiarity with OSHA standards and general chemical safety procedures. The position demands excellent organizational skills as well as superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written), and an ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the College including students, faculty and staff. Computer literacy as well as experience with Microsoft Office, particularly database applications, word processing and spreadsheets is essential. Prior experience in higher education is beneficial.
